While in Ireland, my wife and I visited Bunratty Folk Park in County Clare. The Irish village was set up recreating the general feel of the 19th century with a period style village main street, mill, church, and thatch-roofed cottages. The Bunratty Mill stood out like a jewel in the quaint village. I have painted several paintings of the old mill... here is my latest.

About this painting:
I never tire painting the North Carolina landscape... I live on the Carolina Coast but spend as much time in the Blue Ridge mountains as possible, all the while, painting as I journey through life.
Growing up in Eastern North Carolina, this was a common scene during my childhood and early adult years. The old tobacco barns have been replaced by the modern bulk barn and tobacco is no longer the main crop here... it has been replaced with cotton and sod. BTW... the bulk barn doesn't hold a candle when it comes to character that these old tobacco barns have!

When my wife runs... I paint! My wife is currently training for a half marathon that she plans to run next month with our middle daughter. She runs at the Jacksonville Commons... I often accompany her... not to run but to paint. This painting is from one those beautiful afternoons at the park.

Currituck Lighthouse by Bernie Rosage Jr.
Sold this one before I could actualy post it here or on Etsy...
Did you know????
By the time the Currituck light was completed, sperm whale oil was no longer used much. Lard had become the primary fuel. Keepers toted containers of lard oil to refill the lamp reservoir at the top.
The lamp burned about three gallons a night.

The Octagon House in Carteret County has fascinated me since I was a kid. It is the oldest structure in Carteret County, NC and seems to be built according to a popular fad of eight sided houses of the mid 1800's. The grounds offer splendid views of the White Oak River and marsh like this one.

Living on the Carolina Coast is a feast for the eyes and ALL senses. I never get tired of painting the local marshlands. They draw me in like a magnet and won't let go... to the point that I seldom cross the dunes and paint the ocean... go figure?
About my paintings on Etsy::
This painting, on a gessoed panel with painted sides, is easily framed, displayed with a decorative easel, or simply propped up on a shelf.
All paintings are signed originals (one-of-a-kind American made) using artist grade paints on archival surfaces with "Certificate of Authenticity" label attached.
The greatest care has been taken to make sure the image mirrors the original painting but please take into consideration that colors may slightly vary due to various computer monitor resolutions. Texture is especially hard to capture on the computer screen... please note that is you like what you see on your computer you will love seeing this painting in real life!
I offer these smaller paintings at collectible prices here at Etsy as not to interfere with my obligations with the galleries that represent me. At the moment, I am a full-time college student and these small studies help offset the cost of my education. As a patron, you are also investing in my future and I cannot thank you enough.

We spent the Friday and Saturday (January 6 & 7) judging over 2000 works of art for middle and high schools in the region. The Art Department of Barton College in Wilson, NC organized the event and is where all the judging took place. The Governor’s Student Achievement Award will be displayed in the Governor’s Mansion. The North Carolina Art Education Association Award, The Edward Brown Award, The Barton College Award, The Wilson Times Award, The American Vision Nominees (5 works), The Emerging Vision Award, the Jurors’’ Choice Portfolio, and all Gold Key works will be on exhibit at the Barton Art Galleries on campus of Barton College (see their site for dates). We had the privilege of working with three awesome people from Barton College… Mark Gordon, Regional Director… Susan Fecho, Chair, Department of Art and Design… and… Bonnie LoSchiavo, Secretary, Department of Art and Design.
The following info is from Barton College…
http://www.barton.edu/galleries/scholastics.htm
Operated by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards recognize student achievement in the visual arts and creative writing. Annually, the Alliance and its 81 Regional Affiliates review more than 100,000 submissions of art and writing by creative teenagers from across the country.
Since 1979, Barton College has hosted the Awards for the largest regional district in the state, currently with 62 counties from Winston-Salem to the Coast. The College is fortunate to be associated with The Wilson Daily Times, which provides financial support for the Scholastic Art Awards program.
The Awards provide the opportunity for teenagers to have their work exhibited in prestigious galleries. Barton College, as a regional affiliate hosts the work of eastern North Carolina award winners, each January. The works of 300 artists who earn Gold Medals and American Visions Medals are included in the national exhibition to be held in New York City

Listed below are the Onslow County students that were awarded these honors. It was neat to see the results of the judging as it was released today on Barton College's website. While judging, we never saw the student or school info so it was with pride that I saw so many Onslow County students on the list today!
Congratulations to ALL recipients and your Art Teachers who help make this possible!

Ended the year in the Mountains and began it on the Coast...
My family and I have spent the last week of 2011 in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains near Boone. Yesterday I spent the afternoon ringing 2012 in by plein air painting at the Cedar Point portion of the Croatan National Forest. I never tire of the North Carolina landscape... it is a spiritual journey for me to spend time painting it. One thing is for sure... NC is a gorgeous state from one end to the other as these photos I took within the past seven days attest to!
The temp reached 70 degrees yesterday and the light was perfect! The Cedar Point hiking trail was crowded so I picked a spot off the beaten path to paint his one. I met several nice people including the nicest young couple from Alabama who make Jacksonville their temporary home compliments of the USMC.
Happy New Year everyone!
