A great way to end the year!

I spent the last day of the year painting with a dear artist friend, Clayton Proctor, in his studio gallery in West Jefferson, North Carolina. Had a GREAT time... Thanks Clayton! Check out his work on his webpage... HERE...

Claude Monet (aka Bernie Rosage Jr,) spent the day with Janet Nickle's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade art classes at New Bridge Middle School in Jacksonville, NC... 12-13-2012. Bernie covered art history, biography of Claude Monet, the Impressionism Art Movement, and did an Impressionistic painting demo of Monet's home at Giverny, France.

About this painting:
I love to study and work from the old masters. This small painting is a cover of a portion of a larger work by Eugene Boudin titled, “Jetty at High Tide, Trouville.” I have been an admirer and student of Boudin’s work for some time but had the privilege of seeing his work in person for the first time at the Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism Exhibit (October 21, 2007–January 20, 2008) at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Eugène Boudin (12 July 1824 – 8 August 1898) was one of the first French landscape painters to paint outdoors. Boudin was a marine painter, and expert in the rendering of all that goes upon the sea and along its shores.

In the News: Two generations enter 51st OAS Show.

Recently my father (Bernie Sr.) and I both entered paintings in the 51st Annual Onslow Art Society Spring Show. Dad painted when I was a kid but has recently taken up the challenge again. Here's a photo of us at the opening. The show runs at the Council for the Arts through April.

I was fortunate enough to be awarded the "Onslow County Artist Award" due to the painting "Blue Ridge Autumn" pictured below. A good friend of mine purchased the painting... thanks Karen.

The Eastern North Carolina landscape is dotted with tobacco barn scenes like this. Unfortunately, they are becoming fewer and farther apart.... a constant reminder that things change and people move on.

About this painting:
Tami and I had our first Pub Grub and pint in Ireland's oldest pub...The Brazen Head... in Dublin. In my American mindset I think of anything over 100 years to be old... well that bubble was burst as we enjoyed ourselves in the Brazen Head which has been a pub since 1198AD. WOW... now that's OLD!

The Brazen Head has managed to retain the charm and characteristics of it's past and in particular it's patrons, who have included such literaries as James Joyce, Brendan Behan and Jonathan Swift as well as such revolutionaries as Robert Emmet, Wolfe Tone, Daniel O'Connell and Michael Collins.

Today the patrons still include some famous faces, including some very famous musicians like Van Morrison, Hothouse Flowers, Mary Black and Garth Brooks... not to mention... two jovial Americans... US... Sláinte!

Ladies View is a scenic point along of the Ring of Kerry, in Killarney National Park, Ireland. The name comes from admiration of the view given by Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting during their 1861 visit. Ladies View is the most famous and photographed view of Killarney and is approximately 11 miles from the town of Killarney, one of our favorite stays during our visit.

While in Ireland, my wife and I visited Bunratty Folk Park in County Clare. The Irish village was set up recreating the general feel of the 19th century with a period style village main street, mill, church, and thatch-roofed cottages. The Bunratty Mill stood out like a jewel in the quaint village. I have painted several paintings of the old mill... here is my latest.
