Enchanting Ireland series officially begins NOW!

I have spent the last couple evenings working on my first painting for my "Enchanting Ireland" series. I plan to show the paintings in various stages as WIPs... Works in Progress. This will be a bit different for my loyal patrons who frequent this site because you are used to seeing finished works done "alla prima"... "all at once". I also plan to share my thoughts and inspiration behind these paintings... possibly an Irish history lesson or two along the way.

Sit back and enjoy... I welcome your comments at any time. Click on images to enlarge.

Below is the burnt umber under-painting stage... no worries... I don't intend for the young lad pointing to look like he is from the Planet of the Apes for long...

I'll share updates plus a little info about Annie Moore soon...

Great News! My first solo art show set for August 2009

I just received some great news... my recent trip to Ireland will be the inspiration behind my first solo art exhibit set for the Baysden Gallery in August 2009. The exhibit is titled "Enchanting Ireland" and I have exactly one year to paint approx. 24 paintings for the show. I look forward to sharing this journey with you and could use your encouragement every step of the way. I have been sorting through the 1900+ reference images I took trying to chronicle a story about this special trip. I hope to capture the beauty of the country and her people in this special series. I plan on painting several small studies as inspiration for the larger works and will offer them for sale here and on eBay.
Stay tuned...

Back from our trip to Ireland...

Tami and I just returned from Ireland... here we are pictured at the National Art Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. I have a ton reference photos to work from... over 1900 to be exact! I am planning a large painting series titled "Enchanted Ireland". There will be an abundance of small oil studies for this series so I'll have plenty to offer on ebay in a few weeks.

Thanks for your patience.

One of my favorite spots on earth is Rough Ridge Lookout located at mile marker 302 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Rough Ridge is actually the backside of Grandfather Mountain and the views there are magnificent! See what I mean...
~

~
I painted this view of the Lin Cove Viaduct from about half way up the ridge painting from a wooden lookout. I met several nice people while painting this one...

The weather was very comfortable for late November but the wind was gusting at 40 mph at times... I had paintbrush in one hand and steadied my easel with the other.
~
This painting has been in several invitational shows including, "North Carolina Landscapes... from the Mountains to the Sea"... at the Baysden Gallery in Jacksonville, NC. For that reason it is just now becoming available for auction. Read all about my plein air adventure when this one was painted... My Plein Air Adventure in the Blue Ridge Mountains!

This painting, on a gessoed panel with painted sides, is easily framed or displayed with a decorative easel.

I painted this small plein air painting in my back yard. We have a small pond where these iris' grow. They are works of art and we get much enjoyment from their beauty and color... I think the bull frogs enjoy them too...
