One of my favorite spots on earth is Rough Ridge Lookout located at mile marker 302 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Rough Ridge is actually the backside of Grandfather Mountain and the views there are magnificent! See what I mean...
~

~
I painted this view of the Lin Cove Viaduct from about half way up the ridge painting from a wooden lookout. I met several nice people while painting this one...

~
The weather was very comfortable for late November but the wind was gusting at 40 mph at times... I had paintbrush in one hand and steadied my easel with the other.
~
This painting has been in several invitational shows including, "North Carolina Landscapes... from the Mountains to the Sea"... at the Baysden Gallery in Jacksonville, NC. For that reason it is just now becoming available for auction. Read all about my plein air adventure when this one was painted... My Plein Air Adventure in the Blue Ridge Mountains!

This painting, on a gessoed panel with painted sides, is easily framed or displayed with a decorative easel.

All my paintings are signed originals using artist grade oils and archival surfaces. "Certificate of Authenticity" included.

I painted this small plein air painting in my back yard. We have a small pond where these iris' grow. They are works of art and we get much enjoyment from their beauty and color... I think the bull frogs enjoy them too...

Bernie's Ramblings: 20 years ago today...

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
~ T.S. Eliot

20 years ago today I stood on a rock next to Muddy Creek Falls in Maryland and pledged love and loyalty to a young beautiful woman and God. I realize now that I didn't even know what love was compared to how I feel about the same beautiful woman today!

The T.S. Eliot quote above was read at our wedding with hopes it would ring true... after 20 years I can assure you it does.

Thanks for marrying me Tami...I look forward to the next twenty... not to mention... our celebration trip to Ireland next month!

I painted this plein air piece in the recent 1st Annual Kinston Plein Air Paint Out. 15 plein air artists converged on the beautiful town of Kinston, North Carolina to compete in the paint out. Each artist was allowed to turn in 3 pieces each for judging for their day and a half efforts. This painting placed third out of 40 plus entries. I really enjoyed painting this one and was a bit saddened to find out this awesome old train station is going to be demolished by the railroad company if the citizens of Kinston are unable to purchase and move it.
