With the approach of Mother's Day I wanted to paint a special series as a tribute to mom's everywhere. It was my goal to capture that priceless bond shared by a mother and her child... the special intimacy and unconditional love which is hard to put into words and on canvas. Moms know what I'm trying to say. I chose to cover three master artists for this series whose works, with my own flair, conveyed the mood I was looking for. "Mother and Child #3" is my unique cropped cover version of Gustav Klimt's painting "The Three Ages of Woman" (1905). You can see the original and a larger version of this painting on my blogspot link above. Thank you moms!

Bernardino Luini, a famed old master of the Italian Renaissance, was my first choice. SOLD... Thanks again Al!

Bruton Parish Church is located in the restored area of Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Virginia. It was established in the 17th century in the Virginia Colony. Completed in 1715, the church is a historical icon. Many famous people have attended services there including Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Patrick Henry, and George Mason. The church was used as a hospital in two pivotal wars in American history... the Revolution and the Civil War. Largely through the efforts of its rector, the Reverend Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin (1869-1939), who came to the parish in 1903, the aged and historic church building was restored by 1907 and still serves the community today.

Willy Lott's cottage is not only a beautiful example of 17th century English architecture... it is a famous art artifact. Peacefully nestled at Flatford Mill in the Dedham Vale, Suffolk, England, it was made famous by master artist, John Constable, in several of his paintings... most notably in "The Haywain". The setting today is as inspiring as it was in 1819 when Constable painted the scene that is considered one of the most famous of all English paintings. Here is a panaramic view that captures the cottage at a different time of day and view as compared to "Willy Lott's Cottage" #1.

en plein aire #64, 3-29-2007.
SOLD... Thanks again Jean!

The small coastal town of Swansboro, North Carolina has a quaint friendly atmosphere aptly earning its nickname..."Friendly City by the Sea". The town was incorporated in 1783, and named for Samuel Swann, a former Speaker in the North Carolina legislature. The town's main attractions are its beautiful waterfront views and its quaint downtown, filled with boutiques, shops and delicious restaurants. One of its many beautiful spots is "Bicentennial Park" at the base of the Highway 24 bridge. It gives visitors a chance to fish in the White Oak River or relax and watch the water... not to mention a great place for an artist to set up his easel and paint away. There's also a statue of Otway Burns, a local privateer who built the first steamboat in North Carolina.

The North Carolina coast is not only know for its natural beauty... it is know for GREAT seafood! If the thought of flounder, scallops, oysters, crab cakes, clams, and shrimp make your mouth water you can really appreciate the theme of this painting titled. "Shrimping". It is an awesome site to see these shrimp boats at work in the evening (as seen here) and at night when their lights are the only thing to give their position. By day... they silently rest at their docks resting for another nights work. Work greatly appreciated by us shrimp lovers out there!

One of my favorite artists to study and cover is William Bouguereau. I love his timeless portraits of common folks as seen in their natural settings. I was inspired by his orginal painting, "Le Baiser" and Luke 2:19 to produce this cropped version as a head study.... "But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart"...
