"The Currituck Lighthouse"... 7x5" Oil on Canvasboard, alla prima, 1-25-2007.
SOLD... Thanks Bob!

This painting, "The Currituck Lighthouse", is my first in a series of the five most popular lighthouses of North Carolina. The North Carolina coast, especially along the Outer Banks, is aptly know as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" with its hundreds of recorded shipwrecks. My series will start at the northern tip of these barrier islands and work down.
Currituck Beach Lighthouse was built in 1875 and was the last of the tall coastal lights to be built along the Outer Banks. The 162 foot tower was first lighted in December of 1875. Its original lens is still in operation. There is something peaceful and serene about viewing lighthouses.

A Pleasant Afternoon at Cedar Point
"A Pleasant Afternoon at Cedar Point"... 5x7" Oil on Panel, en plein aire, 1-14-2007.
SOLD... Thanks Karen!

This painting comes from an enjoyable afternoon I spent painting "en plein aire" the salt marshes at Cedar Point State Park with my five year old daughter, Livie. She's quite the artist and this was her first plein air painting excursion... she did quite well. Read all about it and see her painting on my art journal blog... "A Pleasant Afternoon at Cedar Point". I love painting out doors "in open air" (english translation)... it fills all the senses and helps me slow down and get in touch with nature... God's masterpiece.

SOLD... Thanks Martha!

Americana at its best... Let this painting titled "Todd General Store" take you back to a nostalgic time before 7-11's and chain convenient stores. A time when mom and pop general stores dotted our landscape and not only served the community as a place to get mercantile goods but as a gathering place for fellowship. Built in 1914, Todd General Store is located along the South Fork of the New River in Todd, North Carolina... It still serves the community in this way. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and according to Kirk Carrison of Preservation North Carolina, the Todd General Store is one of only five or six authentic general stores remaining in North Carolina. The Todd General Store is the oldest operating store in Ashe County and remains "the gathering place" for local residents where stories of days past are still swapped, relationships are built, and community spirit nourished.

SOLD... Thanks Rhonda!

The solitude of this winter scene of a barn near Fleetwood Falls in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina has replaced the hustle bustle of work usually associated with it. The peace and quiet of this snowy landscape is only broken by the sound of rushing water from the near by waterfall.

Giverny was the home of the father of Impressionism, Claude Monet. He spent many years painting many of his most famous works on the grounds of and in the vicinity of Giverny. The gardens he created, the beautiful scenery and light were his sanctuary and gave him much peace and happiness in his later years. I painted this small study from a photo taken by a friend in an impressionistic manner that he invented and defined. I recently had the privilege of viewing 50 of his paintings at the Monet in Normandy exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art. An experience that was enlightening and transforming for me.
