Giverny was the home of the father of Impressionism, Claude Monet. He spent many years painting many of his most famous works on the grounds of and in the vicinity of Giverny. The gardens he created, the beautiful scenery and light were his sanctuary and gave him much peace and happiness in his later years. I painted this small study from a photo taken by a friend in an impressionistic manner that he invented and defined. I recently had the privilege of viewing 50 of his paintings at the Monet in Normandy exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art. An experience that was enlightening and transforming for me.
