This painting, "Bodie Island Lighthouse", is my second in a series of the five most popular lighthouses of North Carolina. The North Carolina coast, especially along the Outer Banks, is aptly know as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" with its hundreds of recorded shipwrecks. My series will start at the northern tip of these barrier islands and work down.

Bodie (pronounced BODY by locals) Island Lighthouse and its Double Keepers Quarters are in one of the most beautiful settings in America. During construction in 1871-72, five ships wrecked on the nearby shore. emphasizing the need for this particular lighthouse and location.
