Ocracoke Lighthouse

"Ocracoke Lighthouse"... 7x5" Oil on Panel, alla prima, 1-30-2007.
SOLD... Thanks again Bob!

This painting, "Ocracoke Lighthouse", is my fourth in a series of the five most popular lighthouses of North Carolina. The North Carolina coast, especially along the Outer Banks, is aptly know as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" with its hundreds of recorded shipwrecks. My series will start at the northern tip of these barrier islands and work down.

Some legends say that Blackbeard's treasure is buried under the Ocracoke Lighthouse... very doubtful since the notorious pirate was killed in 1718... over a century before the lighthouse was completed in 1823. Ocracoke Lighthouse is currently the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in North Carolina.
