This painting, "The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse", is my third in a series of the five most popular lighthouses of North Carolina. The North Carolina coast, especially along the Outer Banks, is aptly know as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" with its hundreds of recorded shipwrecks. My series will start at the northern tip of these barrier islands and work down.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was built in 1870 and is one of the most famous lights in North America. It is the second tower at the Cape... the first completed in 1803. It is the tallest brick lighthouse in North America... the tower is 198 feet high and gained two feet of elevation after the 1999 relocation.
